Description
Super Plumber Bros? First person is a, as the name suggests, first person Mario game. The game features classic Mario gameplay, but from a completely new point of view. For the first time ever mushroom kingdom is viewable through Mario’s eyes.
Just as in the original Super Mario Bros there are power-ups to be collected, enemies to defeat and many goals to accomplish. The game features one of the most iconic platform levels of all time, world 1-1. More classic levels make a return to the game including their secrets.
The new perspective provides new possibilities, like levels with multiple lanes. This gives the player a completely new experience next to the already iconic gameplay.
How it turned out
We are really proud of what we’ve achieved so far, especially considering what we had planned. A lot of work went to design; self made 3D models, effects and such. The same goes for the engine, since it is almost entirely written by our group. We even animated the models which was an option for later when we had time left after the models were done. We implemented some simple physics, AI and player-enemy/player-object interaction. The world in which you play isn’t only 3D due to the models but also because of the way the level is loaded. Some are multiple lanes. For the power-up there are some visual effects implemented. In short, we did our Must Haves and Should Haves but didn’t get to our Could Haves and Would Haves. Our Could Haves and Would Haves consisted of Oculus Rift support (or something similar), in-game level editor and a model for the player. Nor did a mobile application for the use as an extra “camera” make the cut.
